Board of Directors Meeting
December 7, 2006
ATTENDEES: Heman Adams, Scott Cobble, Beth Dillon, Phil Friedman,
Ruth Grant, Ron Harden, Lynne Hull, Joe Martin, Bill Miller, Shelagh

CALL TO ORDER: President Joel Hurmence called the meeting to order at
7:02 P.M.

REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEES:

REPORTS OF OFFICERS:
Treasurer’s Report – Waddell:
1. The report was distributed by email prior to the meeting.
2. There is an $18,000.00 balance.
3. John is currently putting the budget together for next year. He is
requesting input from
Board members if they see a need for funds.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES:
A. Programs – All
1. Meetings are scheduled through April of 2007.
B. Membership – Jones:
No discussion
C. Education – Hull:
1. Lynne and Joann are working together on education ideas. They are
planning on a
bird garden tour for next year with a tentative date of July 14.
2. Ron moved that FCAS sponsor a landscape workshop for the high plains.
The cost
will be $25.00. Ruth seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
B. Newsletter – Martin:
1. There will be a January newsletter. The deadline will be the weekend
after the
December program meeting.
C. Field Trips – Dillon:
1. Lots of new field trip leaders.
2. Beth gave the high points of recent field trips.
3. Beth tracks:
a) The number of participants on trips.
b) The number of leaders on trips.
4. Many Christmas Bird Counts will begin soon.
5. Bill indicated AoC is requesting a quarterly report on field trips.
6. Beth said she is sending field trip leaders a $5.00 JAX gift
certificate.
7. Phil suggested that Kevin Cook announce FCAS field trips to his
classes.
8. Bill will distribute Ptarmigan newsletters at Kevin’s classes.
NEW BUSINESS:
A. Assist FC City Parks Dept. in getting city parks certified as
sanctuaries – Hull:
1. Received an email from the city stating it wants to get City Park and
Roland Moore
Park certified by International Audubon as sanctuaries. The City desires
input from
FCAS. There is a budget for it.
2. The City would like a bird list for City Park.
B. The Fort Collins Sustainability Group Climate Protection
Resolution – Friedman:
1. The resolution will be studied at the City Council workshop on
January 9th, 2007.
The Council will discuss initiating a task force on sustainability. Phil
requests that
members write letters to the editor regarding the resolution.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Review and Approval of 2007 Goals – All:
1. Will consider the Draft Goals for 2007 accepted and ready to be
submitted to AoC.
NAS/AC BUSINESS
Bill reported on the AoC board meeting last Saturday. He met the new
Executive Director of
Audubon of Denver. The time was spent mostly on the AoC five year plan.
The plan is reviewed
every year. The main emphasis is developing the Center on Rocky Mountain
Arsenal as well as
conserving grasslands and the Gunnison Sage Grouse. The Rendezvous
scheduling is pending.
