Board of Directors Meeting

July 6, 2006

ATTENDEES: Heman Adams, Scott Cobble, Beth Dillon, Phil Friedman, Ruth Grant, Lynne Hull, Joel Hurmence, Diann Johnston, Barbara Jones, Sue Riffe, John Waddell.

OTHERS PRESENT: None.

CALL TO ORDER: President Joel Hurmence called the meeting to order at 7:05 P.M.

REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND COMMITEES:

REPORTS OF OFFICERS:

Treasurer’s Report – Waddell:
1. Beth is the contact person for Colorado Nonprofit Association.
2. Phil indicated he’ll sign the Wells Fargo account papers.
3. The Birdathon total was $6,294.00.

REPORTS OF COMMITTEES:

A. Membership – Jones:
1. Barbara sent an email inquiry to CFO and Boulder Audubon asking if they use
D&O insurance. CFO indicated they only use Commercial Liability Insurance.
Boulder Audubon has not responded.
2. Joel received the annual renewal forms from NAS. FCAS does not receive the Safety
Net unless the forms are returned.

B. Newsletter – Martin:
No discussion.

C. Field Trips – Martin:
No discussion.

D. Birdathon – Friedman:
1. Phil will put together a spreadsheet of Birdathon statistics.
2. Four businesses pledged: Bath Garden, Denise Brennan’s law firm, JAX Outdoor
Gear, and Wells Fargo Bank.
3. Diann suggested the Birdathon Committee have a follow-up meeting. Sue Riffe,
Heman Adams, Joel Hurmence, Ruth Grant, and Diann Johnston will meet prior
to the Board meeting on September 7.
4. Heman suggested that in the future team leaders get together prior to the Birdathon
to discuss the event.
5. The second annual Birding Fair will be October 7.
6. FCAS will publicize Massachusetts Audubon’s trip to Achiote.

NEW BUSINESS:

A. FCAS booth at Poudre River Fest July 8 – Hurmence:
1. From 11:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at Picnic Rock.
2. Lynne will split time between the FCAS booth and the Procession of River Species.
Ruth and Beth might be able to assist. Joel will also be on hand.

B. FCAS support of Letter to Roadless Areas Review Task Force - Hurmence:
There was no objection.

C. Procession of River Species – Hull:
1. The event will be 2:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M. the weekend of New West Fest, August 19.
2. Joel mentioned that channel 22 is looking for content. Lynne said she has the
Procession on DVD.
3. The Bird Garden Tour received positive feedback. Twelve people participated.

D. High Plains Environmental Center – reconnaissance field trip – Hurmence:
Located near Centerra. They are interested in partnering with FCAS on field trips.

OLD BUSINESS

A. October Silent Auction – Hurmence:
Pre-meeting at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 13, at Avogadro’s Number.

B. Open Positions – Conservation, Field Trip, Finance/Fundraising, Programs, Volunteer
Coordinator – Hurmence:
Perhaps have a volunteer fair.

C. Review / update progress on 2006 Goals – Hurmence:
No discussion

NAS/AC BUSINESS
A. Audubon Rendezvous set for Mt. Princeton on Saturday August 26 – Early – All:
No discussion

B. FCAS to host Audubon Colorado Board meeting Sept 9 – Miller:
No discussion

REMINDERS
The Fort Collins Sustainability Group will probably be going to the Fort Collins City Council in August. They would like ten to fifteen people from each stakeholder group to be in attendance. They would like five people to speak to the Council.
